Privacy Policy

Draft for legal review. This document was written to accurately describe Mise's data practices as built, so a lawyer can review and finalize it. It is not legal advice. Confirm it against your final entity name, jurisdiction, and any features added after this date before publishing.
Mise, operated by Soy Ventures LLC ("Mise", "we", "us"), provides the Mise mobile app and the website at getmise.kitchen (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
You give us:
- Account information. Your email address and the username (handle) you choose. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and basic profile information from that provider through a secure sign-in flow.
- Profile details. An optional short bio and profile photo (avatar).
- Content you create. Recipes (titles, ingredients, steps, photos), cookbooks, comments, and the grocery/shopping lists you build.
- Imported recipes. If you import a recipe from a web link, we store the source URL and the recipe details we extract. Imported recipes are private to your account and are not published or shown to other users.
- Social actions. Follows, likes, saves, and the accounts you block.
- Safety reports and feedback. Content you report, and any feedback you send us from within the app (which includes the app version and platform so we can reproduce issues).
Collected automatically to run the Service:
- Push notification token. If you enable notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can deliver alerts (new followers, comments, etc.). We do not use it for anything else.
- Basic technical data. Like any online service, our servers receive standard request information (such as IP address and app version) needed to operate the Service and keep it secure.
We do not collect:
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not collect your precise or approximate location.
- We do not access your contacts, and we do not sell your personal information or share it with advertisers.
How we use information
- To provide the Service — publish and browse recipes, build grocery lists, follow chefs, and use creator shortcodes.
- To operate the social and notification features you turn on.
- To keep the Service safe — respond to reports, enforce blocks, and prevent abuse.
- To communicate with you about your account (for example, password resets and responses to feedback).
How information is shared
- Publicly, by your choice. Your username, public profile, bio, avatar, and the recipes and cookbooks you publish are visible to other users and may appear in links you share. (Imported recipes and private drafts are not.)
- Service providers (subprocessors). We rely on a small set of vendors that
process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (hosted in the United States).
- Expo / Apple Push Notification service / Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications.
- Apple and Google — optional sign-in ("Sign in with Apple/Google") and app distribution.
- Recipe imports. When you import a recipe from a link, our server — not your device — fetches that page. The third-party website sees a request from our server, identified as the Mise recipe importer; it does not receive your identity.
- Payments (not yet active). Membership and cookbook payments are not live. When they launch, payments will be handled by a third-party processor (such as Stripe or RevenueCat), and we will not store full card numbers. We will update this policy before enabling payments.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the Service and its users.
We do not sell your personal information.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction. View and edit your profile and content directly in the app.
- Deletion. Delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and associated content. You can also email us to request deletion.
- Notifications. Turn push notifications off in the app or in your device settings at any time.
- Blocking. Block accounts to hide their recipes and comments from you.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict the use of your data. Contact us at the address below to exercise them; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
Data location and international transfers
The Service is operated from, and stores data in, the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information is processed there.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, where higher). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your account and associated content, except where limited retention is required by law or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate we will provide additional notice.
